Keeping on top of interior design trends can be tricky. Without a team of stylists and an endless budget to keep changing your home every season to match the trends it can seem daunting and overwhelming with so many decisions to make. Instead, it can be much simpler and relatively stress free to keep an eye on the trends and implement one or two small changes gradually in line with your personal tastes. Here are some things to look out for in 2015…
Pantone have declared that the colour of the year for 2015 is Marsala. It’s not quite pink, nor red, it’s somewhere in between and Pantone contends that it ’emanates a sophisticated, natural earthiness’. Thankfully they have also done all the hard work when it comes to deciding what other colours to pair with it. It lends itself well to orange, olive, and turquoise tones so can be toned down or spiced up depending on your personal tastes!
Research says that, on average, we will spend 1/3 of our lives asleep. Whilst this statistic may lead you to believe that you’re off the hook, as far as bedroom décor is concerned, it means the opposite! Investing in your bedroom means that you have a calming personal space that meets your tastes and is somewhere you are happy to wake up in every morning. If you don’t want to overhaul your whole bedroom this year, changing something as simple as the bed frame to a Bentley designed one can transform the room. If you’re on a smaller budget, you may want to consider revitalising your bedding by adding a throw cushion, or blanket.
Gone are the days of boring plain square tiles. The key here is colours, graphics, and being unafraid to have exciting tiles! If you’re looking for a pop of colour without all the fuss and hassle of re-tiling your entire kitchen, for instance, it might be an idea if you’re feeling crafty to create your own backsplash with some tiles you love. It’s very popular now to have tiles which hint that you’ve travelled the world and have taken inspiration from the likes of Morocco, renowned for its fabulous tiles.
If, like me, you’re prone to forgetting to water your plants then succulents may just be the perfect choice for you! They require minimum effort maintenance and are very popular for 2015. They can bring life to a room, literally, and can have a nice calming influence on the environment. How you style them is up to you but smaller succulents are easier (and cheaper!) to manage.
I wish I was asleep a third of my life! I never get enough shut eye!
