A fortnight of work

Yesterday was my last day of work experience. :yessir: I know I’ve talked (and tweeted) about this a lot and I hope nobody thinks I’m trying to show off because I’m really not D: I’d just had nothing else to blog about, and Twitter’s little slogan says ‘What’s happening?‘ and well the only important thing happening with me right now is work experience.

Soooo like I’ve said before I did creative design & internet shiz with Virgin Media. The first week was when I worked with the ‘internet team’, or the eCommerce team (the proper terminology for it) Dx . First thing I noticed that was different about school and work is that things are much more relaxed at work… as long as you get your work done you can do whatever else. You can go to lunch ‘any time from twelve for about an hour’ (though I was usually a BADMAN (lol, sarcasm) and went for 1 and a half hours or 1 and a quarter. People listened to their iPods, were on their phones (which isn’t allowed at my school) plus… GET THIS – when you go to the toilet there AREN’T 100 people there doing their make up… shocking I know.

So what did I learn in the eCommerce team? Some really interesting stuff, but I won’t go into detail on all of it. I learned about SEO, CMS and just different things that go into making the Virgin Media website (there’s A LOTTTTT that goes into it, a whole office of people just working only a Virgin Mobile/Broadband website) :O One of the most interesting things I learned was about User Experience! Using Google Analytics (which I now have) you can see what people are doing on your site. What the User Experience team do it analyze it… analyze WHY they’re clicking out of that page… analyze why they’re doing whatever…

Second week I was with the creative design side. They do all of the designs for Virgin Media; agencies do some designs though but I won’t go into it since it’s long and complicated. I met some REALLY creative people, and these people I met are real perfectionists and have really inspired me to work that harder on Skylish to make it bigger and better than what it is. :yessir:

They invited me back for work experience in the Summer so that shall be goooood. Until then I have a couple of different things on my agenda and one of the things is working on Skylish. I’m gonna revamp my portfolio because it looks fugly to me and hopefully just revamp different things on the site over the Summer, I also need to get those illustration tutorials up.

Q: Any plans over the Summer?
Q: Have you ever done any kind of Work Experience? If so, what?

One guy I was working with gave me these design magazines by computerarts.co.uk. Looking forward to start reading them ^_^ I’m also gonna stop being so stubborn and download Photoshop… soon. :)

I’ve talked to muchhh D: It’s hard trying to condense 2 weeks into a short blog. ADIOOSSS! ♥
